I really struggled to start this book. I had been dying to get my hands on it, then I got an audio and an ebook and I just didn’t feel emotionally ready for an angsty book. So I put it off and I was just about to start another book when I realised my window to read this was closing so I picked it up expecting not to be able to get into it and was immediately swept away. And then I felt like an idiot because of course that would happen with this author.

From the first sentence I developed a natural bias against Finn and I nursed that for a solid half the book. I was so mad and I really didn’t like him. I wanted Ember to kick him in his shins and leave him to watch her soar. And then I would get mad at Ember for not doing exactly that. Then I got it and I was madly on their team. But, I did get infuriated with them at the reunion, like seriously have you learnt nothing? Fucking communicate. Ahhhh.

I literally could not put the damn story down. I swapped between audio and reading. And OMG the audio was a freaking masterpiece. I started off reading it and then swapped to audio to adult and I was so nervous how they would get the format of the book to play out on audio. And then it was even better than actually reading it, which isn't my normal feelings on audio. And the voices and the accents Fuuccckkkk yes. Then my headphones died and I went back to reading. But you best believe the moment those suckers charged I jumped straight back to audio.

The entire crew was awesome. There were ones I loved and ones I hated and ones I wanted to scream at. And I could see it all playing out on a reality tv show even if I haven't watched one in twenty years. The villain edit to bump ratings, the extra content to change the narrative and keep the show rolling. The interviews to get the crew's thoughts on things. It was just chef’s kiss.

I am so glad I picked up this book and I know it will be living rent free in my head for a while.
