Bucket List Rule #1: Be careful who finds your list.

Oops.

As the future CEO of my grandmother’s fashion empire, I’m not supposed to want to design a line of fancy dresses for girls with special needs. But when I pull out all the stops and present my vision to my grandmother, she agrees to let me try on one very questionable condition.

The condition?

I have to complete every item on the bucket list I wrote in college.

Challenge accepted.

Only, this is the same bucket list that includes going on a date with a hot hockey player, riding a horse, kissing in front of the Eiffel Tower…oh, and finding a husband.

The first one is where NHL player Eli Lawson comes in.

***

When my matchmaking mother sets me up with a date for my cousin’s wedding, I tell her the only thing I can…that I’m bringing my girlfriend.

Except, I don’t have one.

And I certainly don’t have someone who will spend a week with me in Copper Creek, Montana for the wedding festivities.

When workaholic Nala Johnson wins a date with me at a charity auction, I think I’ve found the perfect solution to my problem. Even better when she tells me about her bucket list. Because I’m just the man to help her with it.

I mean, how difficult can it be to find her a husband?

These books are just really great reads when you need something light and entertaining. They have a great story that keeps you wrapped wanting to know what is going to happen next. And the characters are all likable. Every time I've read one of these books I've basically read it as a standalone because my goldfish brain can't hold too many details for the wait between books.

The fake girlfriend trope is one of my favourites, so I went into this with a lot of excitement. Add in a sexy and sweet hockey player and I was one happy little reader. And for the most part I loved Nala and Eli. They were both great people who both cared about everyone around them. But they each had moments where I was annoyed with them individually.

Eli was so oblivious to his own feelings and acted like a coward. Nala was such a people pleaser she needed to stop going along with the plan and speak up. Which she did but it felt like she left it way too late. I wanted her to put her feelings before her career goals and fight and I got frustrated waiting for her to do it.

Luckily, those moments were fleeting because I was so invested in them as a couple. The whole book was really easy to read, and I enjoyed the chemistry between them as well as watching the story unfold. And the ending was just the sweetness that I was chasing.

About the Book

This is the story of a man falling in love with a woman.

A man that was supposed to be a role model, and a woman that was just barely twenty-one.

A man who should’ve known better, and a woman that didn’t know that she was destroying his career word by word, innocent touch by innocent touch, smile by smile, until it had already imploded.

The world collapses around Absinthe ‘Sin’ Solomon, and the only thing he can do is try not to take her down with him.

The moment the inevitable happens, and the gavel bangs signaling that he will spend the next nine years in prison for attempted murder, Sin tries to let go. But Blaise Mackenzie has never, not ever, been one to give up without a fight.

Her military career might be over, but her career as a prison guard is just about to get started.

And her favorite prisoner? A pissed-off older man, a drill sergeant dishonorably discharged from the Army that tells himself daily that the new ‘Kitty Kitty’ female prison guard is not for him.

After following him around for years, watching over him from afar in any way she can, Sin is released early. And the first person that he’s going to see? A stubborn little blonde-headed female that should’ve known better than to trust a man like him.

Every time I get to the end of one of these books, I make the mistake of reading the teaser for the next one. So, by the time I close my kindle all my brain can focus on is the needy, grabby hands I have wanting more and not the book I just read. Which is also partly because I read these books and they leave me feeling satisfied.

The whole series is based around the same characters and basic theme, yet they all have their own story and couple. So, I feel like I learn a little more after each book but I also get this new story I wasn't expecting. And since the book isn't heaps wordy, I can read it in a sitting or two without distraction.

Sin and Blaise were an interesting couple. They each had quirks and life experiences that made them individually interesting. As a couple I kinda didn't get it, but then their chemistry was scorching, and they worked together. So, it kind of felt like a "meh, fair enough" moment when they became official. Or maybe that's just my opinion after I got annoyed with them both for stepping back.

Anyway, this was a typical great Lani Lynn Vale book and of course I can't wait for the next one.

Lucky.

The one adjective used to describe my entire hockey career. I prefer to call it hard work, at least I did until my game went to complete crap. I haven’t scored in eight games and my team owner is talking about trading me.

I’ve never believed in superstitions.

Never needed one. I suppose I was “lucky” in that way. But now the best way to refer to me is desperate. I’d wear the same socks for an entire year just to be the high-scoring center I used to be.

Imagine my surprise when after spending New Year’s Eve with a woman, I score a hat trick in the next game—that’s three goals in one game for you non-hockey lovers.

Now, I have to track  her down and bribe her to do it again before every game. Get your mind out of the gutter, I’m not talking about it.

I find her and when I get to know her better, I end up spending more time thinking about her than my game, but she’s made it clear she wants no part of me. She’s going to learn that I didn’t become a professional hockey player without having to fight for what I want.

Is there anything better than when one of your favourite writing duos announces they are writing a series with one of your favourite themes? From the minute it was revealed I have been dying to get my hands on it. Knowing that I’m going to enjoy the writing is always a huge draw, especially when you know that the book is going to be happy and easy to get lost in for a few hours. Add in a hockey hottie and I’m there.

I really enjoyed both characters, they were cute and genuine. They each came with their own baggage and had reason not to trust each other but neither of them used it as an excuse to hide from their feelings. Well, mostly. They each were honest and open and didn’t play games and I found them really endearing. Especially Aiden. He was in a bad place but he wasn’t negative or blaming anyone for his issues. He just made a plan to turn his luck around and approached it logically (kinda) and worked on it.

Saige was sweet. I couldn’t get enough of her. I completely understood and respected her reluctance to get into a relationship with Aiden. But she didn’t use her reasons against Aiden she just explained it and let his actions speak for themselves. They were great together and I loved the whole relationship.

Oh and then they had the super sweet as sugar cameo from previous couples from their other series and I was all melty and happy.

Bad Swipe by Elise Faber is available now!

Stef blamed the dating app.

She saw his picture—his smile, the rugged line of his jaw, the way the man could fill out a suit, and like an idiot, she fell a bit in love with him.

Idiot because no one ever really looked like their profile pic. Idiot also because if the man did look like his profile pic then he certainly wasn’t going to be into a science geek who binged old Sci-Fi shows on the regular, and whose longest relationship was with her golden retriever named Fred.

But in a night of drunken insanity, she swiped right on the picture she’d been drooling over for months.

Then in a morning of hangover unpleasantness, she saw that he’d swiped right, too.

And suddenly, she found herself on a date with the man of her dreams.

The only question was whether or not he lived up to them.
