Ok
so I finished Dearest Clementine yesterday and I was hooked. I HAD to write a
review, I had to tell people how much I loved this amazing book and how awesome
the characters were, there was no other option. And honestly that is the only
reason I blog. Because every now and then I will read a book that I just have
to tell anyone and everyone who will listen that they HAVE to read this book or
this series and the people around me are so used to my ranting they all just
tune me out.
So
I finished Dearest Clementine, I wrote my blog, I twittered and twattered and
then I one clicked Finding Dandelion and Kissing Madeline and I jumped right
back in.
I
have to admit I was a little apprehensive about Jax from the start and we didn’t
really know Dani much but the reviews on them were a mixed bag of OMG this
books amazing and Jax is such a douche-canoe he should burn in hell, so I wasn’t
sure it was going to be up my alley. Luckily I was already hooked like the
bookwhore I am and had it all loaded waiting for me so I HAD to read it to see.
In
Dearest Clementine I saw Jax as a complete narcissist who maybe was trying
to find his way back to being the guy he wanted to be. But then maybe I just
wanted to think that’s what I saw in him, I do so love a reformed man-whoring
arsehole. Getting to know him in this book there were more times than not I
wanted Dani to kick him in his soccer balls and move on. Then we would get in
his head and I would feel sorry for the giant dumb ass and hope he could pull
it together.
Dani
was such a sweetheart and I loved her from dot. She really did deserve a lot
more than Jax gave her but she was such an amazing person her forgiveness and
understanding aren’t hard to believe. The
last 20% of this book was amazing and all of the emotions and angst and laughs
and heartache reinforced how grateful I am that I am a reader.
“Jax,” I whisper, “thanks for coming to Chicago
to find me.”
I
close my eyes as he pulls me closer, and I nestle my head against his chest and
listen to his heartbeat.
“Dandelion,
I’m starting to think you’re the one who found me.”
I
do have to complain that we didn’t get enough Jax and Dani together time at the
end of the novel but then I am sure we are going to see some of them in Daren’s
story right? The addition of some amazing secondary characters in this book was
great but I did miss seeing the secondary characters I loved from Dearest
Clementine. However now I am busy praying that Travis will get his own book or
even just a kick ass novella please Lex please?
Anyway
I guess I better get to Kissing Madeline since I did crave a conclusion to
Daren after reading Dearest Clementine but I gotta tell you his fiancé better
get eaten by sharks in a feeding frenzy or have a piano dropped on her from a 9
story window or syphilis even or I am going to be very disappointed.

So it has become apparent I am in the middle of a
massive new adult phase and I seem to be blessed as I have picked nothing but
amazing novels the last few days. I even managed to almost convince myself I
was going slightly (ok maybe slightly is an understatement but I mean slightly
more than an average day ) insane when the 2 books I read back to back by 2
different authors overlapped a storyline. But reading the last authors
acknowledgements I think I can hold off on the doctor’s appointment and just
love the freak coincidence that lead me to reading these 2 books back to back.
So if you have read the blurb for Dearest
Clementine you know that Clem might be a little on the bitch side, but you also
know she has plenty of reasons. But there’s so much more to Clem you don’t know
that make you absolutely love her. She and I have nothing in common but I still
felt like I was living her story right along with her and everything that
happened to her and every time she was let down or freaked out I wanted to
scream in frustration for her. Maybe there were times I wanted to flick her on
the forehead and tell her to pull up her big girl panties and go to war for
herself but then she would do exactly that and I would have to sit back with a
stupid grin and give her an atta girl.
Gavin, oh amazing, wonderful, sweet, Gavin. You
dumb ass. As soon as I met Gavin my panties dropped and I was sold. He was so
perfect I just wanted to wrap him up and steal him and keep him in my book
boyfriend box. And then he wasn’t. But being that this was a NA novel and he had been so amazing I knew
there was a reason but as the pages turned I almost convinced myself that there
wasn’t a good enough reason, given all that we know of Clem’s past he had to
know what he was doing was stupid and I so wanted to junk punch him.
I have to admit that from the start I had a very
solid feeling I knew what the conclusion to the underlying drama was going to
be and as it was all revealed and I was right I didn’t feel like this was a
negative in any way. Maybe that was because the author led us there step by
step to reinforce how absolutely perfect Gavin was.
I would have liked to see more of a conclusion in
regards to Clem’s relationship with her parents as well as maybe some
resolution with Daren but maybe we will see some of that in Jax’s story which
is told next in Finding Dandelion which I am running off to read right now.

I suppose I should start this review with a confession. I skimmed over the blurb for this book and thought it was another step brother romance with sport thrown in and since I had been on a bit of a roll with both of these themes I started this one. So if you were smart enough to read more than the first line of the blurb you already know that is not what I got.
With that said I am far from disappointed, it definitely wasn't what I was expecting and to be honest even now I have finished the book and read the blurb I think I still wouldn't have gotten what I was expecting.
To say the leading lady was a little left of centre is a bit of an understatement, she is completely pucking nuts and for the most part I loved it, however there were a few instances I wanted to slap her, hard, like really hard. But then I would end up giggling over her next stupid exploit and I would forget she annoyed me.
Being an Aussie we really don't get ice hockey at all but Helena gave me enough to make me want a hockey player of my own but not so much I got lost in the lingo.
And Alex was pretty much all around perfect. Enough said.
So if you're in the mood for a slightly strange story that will deliver a yummy sports star, a super hero monster cock, a lot of beavers and massive amounts of humour this is absolutely the book.

Katee Robert is one of those authors you always know you will end her books with a few wet panty moments and a big smile and this one was the perfect companion for a rainy afternoon in.
We met Drew and Avery in the first out of uniform book and I was so glad to see them get their own story.
I was expecting a light and fluffy friends to forever story, what I got instead was a lot more emotion and a story line that had me wondering how it was going to play out while opening the door for a few of our secondary characters to maybe be heading into their own books soon.
But luckily none of the emotions or storyline got in the way of some smoking hot cops and robbers or a few orgasms on the kitchen bench and I had a few moments biting my lip hoping none of the soccer mums around me noticed me squirming.
So if you are looking for a feel good story that will make you feel all warm and fuzzy and damp this is the perfect book.

I received this ARC from the beautiful Elizabeth
after she saw my mini meltdown on a friends review when I realised this book
was nearly due for release. And I honestly went into it knowing only 3 things.
- It would destroy me with the depth of emotion Elizabeth always makes me feel for her characters
- My GR friends who had read it had loved it
- There would be smoking hot sex and an amazing ending that would make all the tears and feels well worth it.
And now that I have finished it, all of those
things are confirmed and more.
Normally I get a little lost when timelines skip
back and forth but this one just flowed so smoothly and blended together so
perfectly, it built the angst and drama and suspense to such perfect levels
that not only was it easy to follow but it was an amazing process to see what
the characters had been through and how they had dealt with it all.
The story of Kane and his Hell (AKA Helene) was a
hard one to hear and having it drip fed to me made my mind wander trying to
guess what was coming next. At times I felt like I was in a Criminal Minds
episode but it was happening to people I knew and loved, so I felt every action
to the depths of my soul. And despite the tears streaming down my face as we
walked through the past I couldn’t help but also feel like everything was going
to be ok since we saw them in the present reconnecting and working through
everything that had happened to them.
Elizabeth’s men are always king of the arseholes and
as much as she makes me hate them she also shows us their depth of character
and makes us realise exactly why they behave like they do and it’s hard not to
want to love them and cuddle them and tell them they deserve more than they
give themselves credit for. As well as kick them in their happy place and then
jump on and ride them. And Kane was the epitome of all of that. I loved him
almost as much as I hated his actions.
Helene was perfectly imperfect and she dealt with
her past and present colliding with such inner strength it was amazing watching
her overcome the obstacles in her path and fight for everything she wanted and
deserved.
If you aren’t already a fan of Elizabeth Finn’s
then I suggest you pre-order this book right now and while you’re waiting one
click Brothers Keeper.
