It's the summer of 1980, and a sweltering heat wave plagues much of the South. To get over a recent breakup and find some much-needed cooling down, Amelia Halloway escapes the city to spend the next three months at her grandparent's secluded lake house. Even though she craves the isolation, it doesn't last long thanks to an irritatingly handsome intruder.

The man’s from across the lake; the cocky, arrogant, and completely irresistible Knox Wellington-- one who isn't used to hearing the word no. She's running; he's chasing, and it's one hell of a relay. Inevitably, as most Wellingtons do, he breaks down her barriers and raises her temperature higher than any heat index. They embark on a carefree, no strings affair that intensifies the flames of their passion with every passing day.

What's meant to be a summer fling turns into so much more, but even the most relentless inferno eventually burns out, leaving nothing but ashes and destruction in its wake.

Life may tear them apart, but even hundreds of miles away and months apart, Knox can't forget the beautiful brunette who set his soul on fire, consuming his every waking thought until he has to seek her out. When he returns, he's in for the surprise of his life.

About to face the ultimate test, Knox must decide... can he stand the heat?

Excerpt
Amelia blows out a breath so hard that her bangs fly up out of her face. “I do. I so do, but I’ve been waiting for you to make the first move in progressing this thing”—she waves her hands between us—“and you haven’t done anything. I’ve been about as obvious as I can without saying the words. So here I am, saying it. I want your tongue between my legs. Your cock, too.”

Yeah. Rock fucking hard.

“It’s 1980, sweetheart. Women are allowed to make the first move, ya know?” I shouldn’t egg her on, but it’s too damn hard not to.

A cute little grin spreads across her face, and she treats me to an exaggerated eyeroll. “Noted. And I’ll remember that for the next guy.”

Yeah, not a fan of that. Not fucking at all.

“Amelia…” The word is practically a growl, and it’s suddenly my mission to fuck the thought of any other man out of her.

“Don’t Amelia me! Do you know how hard it’s been not to roll over on the couch and mount you every night this week? You’ve been toying with me, I swear. Every time you graze my bare skin, chills course throughout my whole body. My lady parts get all tingly, my heart beats like its Pete Charles closin’ out ‘Black Betty,’ and just the thought of you doing something—anything—gets me so damn excited. Except you’ve done practically nothing. I can’t even touch my damn self because it’s not the same as it being you! So please, do something about it or else I’m going to combust!”

I’m trying not to grin from her tirade, but it’s impossible. She’s agitated and it’s fucking cute. So I tell her.

“Fuck, you’re cute.”

“Oh my god, you make me want to tear my hair out!”

“Still fucking cute.”

“Arg!”

I’m tired of talking. Amelia’s been a good, patient girl, and it’s time she got her reward.

I’m up the steps, two at a time, in record speed. Amelia lets out a shriek when I bend down, scoop her up, and carry her back to her house. She pushes the door open wider from in my arms, and I kick it closed behind us. I don’t put her down until we’re in her bedroom. My hand comes down to brush a lock of hair off her cheek. Then I take it in my palm. Her breath is ragged even though I’m the one who raced through her house like a madman.

“You still wanna mount me, babe?”

Emerald eyes widen. A smooth, pink tongue wets gorgeous, plump lips.

“Yeah, you do. Don’t worry. You’ll have your turn soon enough.”
